A pulse duration of 300ps creates what’s called a photo-mechanical effect (instead of a photothermal effect), which gives you greater precision. At 300ps, melanosomes are destroyed before the heat affects the surrounding tissue. The stress relaxation time for melanosomes when they are destroyed is 333ps, so a 300ps laser provides optimal impact to its target without damaging the surrounding skin.
